Dear users of Capture one pro,
Here we are, Capture One Pro 11 is now out, since the very beginning of the month, with the annual novelties. In fact, the latest visible improvements concern the workflow and under the hood the software’s performance.
Capture one Pro 11 workflow:
Annotations: It is now possible to add handwritten notes on your images, like in Photoshop. Very handy for communicating with your retoucher or simply to serve as a memo for subsequent corrections. Even better, during a round-trip with Photoshop, you can attach your annotations as a separate Photoshop layer within your PSD file.
In the same way, when exporting your PSD to Photoshop, you can opt for adding your cropping made in Capture one pro 11 that appears as a path layer. This allows you to edit the entire image in Photoshop while retaining the ability to edit and re-edit the cropping later.
Always in the layers, the old users of Capture One Pro, will quickly notice the disappearance of the “local adjustement tab” and its replacement by the “layer tool“. This offers the flexibility of using a floating tool or placing it at the top of several tabs. This tool, even has a slider that controls the opacity of each layer. Very convenient in my opinion for people who would use for example a layer for tones adjustment, another for the color, another for the contrast, clarity, sharpness etc. The flexibility and speed is here greatly optimized !! Especially since the level tools and color balances are now usable in the layers. (This involved a redesign of color management with the white balance already available in local adjustments for a long time).
Phase One goes even further with new options appearing in layers, with the ability to directly create a filled layer or not, and even more, it is possible to adjust the feather of your masks (in addition to the brush one) with the “Feather Mask” option or to improve your selections with the “Refine Mask” option for much more precise results on the borders.
The cherry on the cake from Phase One, Once the mask made, usually visible in red (changeable in the preferences), can now be displayed in black and white and the styles (or presets) of Capture One Pro, in this last version are applicable as a layer. (only the settings compatible with the local editing obviously).
When importing, in the dialog box, you’ll find a small option as a checkbox to tick off to filter any duplicates. This is a small detail, which can sometimes be very useful. This option can be used both in your catalog and in a session. Overall, in the background Phase One has improved the overall performance of capture one pro in the editing process, in terms of speed. You will notice it especially when using layers and local adjustments.
That’s all for the new features of Capture One Pro 11 from Phase One.
