Rich in culture and history (Roman, Arab, Christian), Cordoba is very well known thanks to the \"\u00a0<strong>Mezquita of Cordoba<\/strong>\" a building listed as a World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">C\u00f3rdoba dates back to antiquity, underwent the Roman Empire before crossing the Middle Ages to become the seat of Arab power until 1147. The city shines <strong>during the 10th century as the capital of the Caliphate of Cordoba<\/strong> before losing its importance to Seville in the 12th century.<sup>.<\/sup> century. Finally, it was Ferdinand III of Castile who conquered Cordoba in 1236.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-e2cd612\" data-block-id=\"e2cd612\"><style>.stk-e2cd612 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Cordoba is <strong>the city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site more times than any other<\/strong>The city is famous for its historic centre, its mosque-cathedral and the Patio Festival.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-38414a2\" id=\"3-le-climat\" data-block-id=\"38414a2\"><style>.stk-38414a2 .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">La Mesquita de Cordoba<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-a5727bc\" id=\"histoire-de-la-mesquita\" data-block-id=\"a5727bc\"><h3 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">History of La Mesquita<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b6535e5\" data-block-id=\"b6535e5\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>The Mesquita was originally a Roman temple<\/strong> then became a Visigothic Christian basilica between the IV<sup>. <\/sup>and VIII<sup>. <\/sup>century. La Mesquita later became a mosque during the Muslim presence between the 8th and 12th centuries.<sup>.<\/sup> and XIII<sup>.<\/sup> century. It eventually became a Catholic cathedral in 1236.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a543f48\" data-block-id=\"a543f48\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Having said that, the monument has been <strong>for a short time a Catholic church<\/strong> <strong>during a brief reconquest during the Reconquista<\/strong> by King Alfonso VII in May 1146.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-97603e7\" data-block-id=\"97603e7\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">And it's more exactly <strong>29th June 1236<\/strong>the date on which it was <strong>dedicated cathedral<\/strong>. <strong>In the XVI<sup>. <\/sup>century that the \"major chapel\" was built.\u00a0<\/strong> in order to distinguish it from other older chapels also located in the building.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-0eee93c\" data-block-id=\"0eee93c\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Cordoba is also<strong> famous for its magnificent Jewish quarter, the Juder\u00eda, with its narrow streets and flower-filled patios<\/strong>. The town is also home to many other historic monuments, including <strong>the Roman bridge of Cordoba and the Alc\u00e1zar of the Christian kings.<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4d2af55\" data-block-id=\"4d2af55\"><style>.stk-4d2af55 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Visitors can also lose themselves in the city's charming squares and shady gardens. Cordoba offers a unique cultural experience, blending the influence of different eras and civilisations. It's impossible not to be captivated by the beauty and richness of this Andalusian city.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-5ac5a92\" id=\"architecture-et-design\" data-block-id=\"5ac5a92\"><h3 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Architecture and design<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1cb2e1b\" data-block-id=\"1cb2e1b\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">As you will have gathered, the Mesquita is one of the most representative monuments in Spanish history. It is the architectural testimony of the entire dynasty of Umayyad emirs and caliphs who ruled Andalusia. A fusion of styles and techniques reflecting all the influences of these different cultures.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b5c3350\" data-block-id=\"b5c3350\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">As you approach the building, you'll have the impression that you're approaching a<strong>a fortress with high crenellated walls reinforced by buttresses<\/strong>. Near the entrance you can't miss<strong> the bell tower<\/strong> which you will find at the exit, as you pass by <strong>in the Patio des Orangers<\/strong>. (splendid patio, take a deep breath of its fragrances \ud83d\ude0d)<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-13b01bc\" data-block-id=\"13b01bc\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Once inside, you won't know which way to turn, <strong>hundreds of columns everywhere<\/strong> Forming naves, (I didn't count them \ud83d\ude06 ) but its columns and vaults will encourage you to listen to the audio guide to understand the different stages of their creation.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ae7c4e6\" data-block-id=\"ae7c4e6\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In fact, as mentioned above, there were several successive constructions. The monolithic columns were first built in the Visigothic or Roman period, after which the construction was heightened. <strong>by the Umayyad caliphs, giving us these double-tiered arcades<\/strong>to give this large room more height.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-cda4dcf\" data-block-id=\"cda4dcf\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The mosque was extended at least twice to the south, and then a final time to the east in its history. Still inside, you will pass the Mihrab, which before this latest extension was located in the centre on the longitudinal axis of this great hall. It is now the Chapelle Sainte Th\u00e9r\u00e8se (Saint Theresa's Chapel), located in the central axis. But other chapels such as the Tabernacle Chapel, the Royal Chapel and the Chapel of Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de la Concepci\u00f3n are also worth exploring.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-0eb2b58\" data-block-id=\"0eb2b58\"><style>.stk-0eb2b58 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">I'm sure you'll agree that there's plenty to marvel at and marvel at in the face of so much beauty!<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-e9f5198\" id=\"visiter-cordoue-et-ses-alentours\" data-block-id=\"e9f5198\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">Visiting Cordoba and the surrounding area<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-c5dc958\" data-block-id=\"c5dc958\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">La Mesquita is Cordoba's must-see, but the city itself and its narrow streets are well worth a visit. There are some very nice souvenir shops, delicious restaurants and, above all, flower-filled patios everywhere. Be careful, though, as these may open at the end of the day in the warmer months.
