And if you want to capture them yourself, then you've come to the right place. Here are a few handy tips for creating your panoramic images simply. Panoramic and vectoramic?<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-c831217\" data-block-id=\"c831217\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Generally speaking <strong>a panoramic, full-length photo with little height!<\/strong> A bit like the 16:9 cinema format<sup>.<\/sup>As soon as the photo is twice as long as it is high, you're in for a panoramic view \ud83d\ude05! Beyond that, it's even more panoramic! <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4b7150b\" data-block-id=\"4b7150b\"><style>.stk-4b7150b {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Of course, if we turn the camera vertically, we get our vectoramic photo, which is very narrow in width and very tall (a portrait version in short, which can be useful for photos of skyscrapers, for example). Now we know what we're talking about, let's see <strong>when and why use this photo format?<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-d469d1c\" id=\"2-pourquoi-faire-une-photo-panoramique\" data-block-id=\"d469d1c\"><style>.stk-d469d1c .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">2. Why take a panoramic photo?<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6742d68\" data-block-id=\"6742d68\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">I can think of at least 3 reasons to take a panoramic photograph;<\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9fbe91c\" data-block-id=\"9fbe91c\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The 1<sup>era<\/sup> and the most obvious, is to bring in a grandiose, sweeping landscape, called the <strong>a panorama<\/strong> in a single image. A mountain range, a seaside bay, etc. In this case, we start with a photo taken with a wide-angle lens, or even an ultra-wide-angle lens.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-2e4ac56\" data-block-id=\"2e4ac56\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The 2<sup>nd<\/sup><strong> to increase the size and resolution of a photo<\/strong>. In fact, this is much less of a problem these days, with the resolution of our sensors getting higher and higher in the pixels. <strong>stitching together a number of captured photos to produce a large image with a high level of detail<\/strong> and that's still true today.  The fact is, <strong>It's the purpose for which the photo is taken that determines the capture technique.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-fbbd787\" data-block-id=\"fbbd787\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In other words, if you have a medium-resolution camera, and you want to make a huge souvenir poster on your living room wall, this will be a simple and effective solution.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-ed41402\" data-block-id=\"ed41402\"><style>.stk-ed41402 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The 3<sup>th<\/sup> and last reason in my opinion is <strong>be able to shoot at 180\u00b0 or more and put it all together in a single image. And with minimal distortion.<\/strong> The more you use an ultra-wide-angle lens (fisheye, for example), the wider you'll go, but the resolution will be limited and the image will be very distorted (although optical correction software such as DxO Viewpoint is excellent), but the result will be better quality and more balanced with multiple photos stitched together.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-15e5fa9\" id=\"3-quel-materiel-faut-il\" data-block-id=\"15e5fa9\"><style>.stk-15e5fa9 .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">3. What equipment do you need?<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-eb95200\" data-block-id=\"eb95200\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Use a tripod wherever possible. Make sure it is aligned horizontally to ensure that all the images in the series are aligned when you turn the tripod head.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-fcb0f5e\" data-block-id=\"fcb0f5e\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There was a time when using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missnumerique.com\/trepied-rotule-fi-270-c-180_83.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a special panoramic tripod head<\/a><\/strong> was essential. Although this is still a plus, and makes it easier to assemble your different photos in the software, assembly technology has become so powerful that it's no longer essential. <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-aef9fc5\" data-block-id=\"aef9fc5\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">But if you do a lot of panning, I'd still recommend a dedicated system. Allow the camera to rotate <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Point_nodal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around the nodal point<\/a> <\/strong>of the lens, guaranteeing that even <strong>objects located a short distance away will always fit together perfectly<\/strong> in the final panorama. (with the assurance of almost no sewing errors).<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-4edfc71\" data-block-id=\"4edfc71\"><style>.stk-4edfc71 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Concerning the objective, <strong>from 35mm to 50mm is fine<\/strong>. If the angle is too wide, there is a risk that the image will be too distorted, and this will quickly become difficult for the stitching software to correct. Distorted areas could persist once assembled and this is sometimes very visible. \ud83d\ude16<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-b655661\" id=\"4-conseil-de-capture\" data-block-id=\"b655661\"><style>.stk-b655661 .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">4. Capture advice<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-84509eb\" data-block-id=\"84509eb\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Here, the key is to have all the images with a certain degree of consistency, in terms of exposure (and indirectly colour).<\/strong>). This will make post-production and assembly much easier. <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1080ef5\" data-block-id=\"1080ef5\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>1\/ To do this, I advise you to set your camera in manual mode with an aperture of around f\/8 or f\/11 and keep this aperture for all your photos.<\/strong> With this aperture the exposure will remain the same on all photos taken but not only that, having the same depth of field, the same sharpness on all your photos will be a plus and vignetting should be well limited at f\/8. (Shoot one series at f\/8 and another at f\/11 and use the best \ud83e\udd13.)<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-895af12\" data-block-id=\"895af12\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>2\/ Use manual focus to ensure that all the images are in focus and that they are focused at the same distance.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-cf5eaf9\" data-block-id=\"cf5eaf9\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">3\/ Also, <strong>shoot well in Raw format<\/strong>. This will allow much greater flexibility <strong>to finely balance your images<\/strong> in the design software before assembly.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-7722222\" data-block-id=\"7722222\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">4\/ <strong>In addition, overlap your images from 20 to 40%.<\/strong>You can use the fine grid activated on your camera or the graduations (if present) on your tripod or head.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8f80e05\" data-block-id=\"8f80e05\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">5\/ From there you can technically take <strong>as many photos as you want, even 2 or 3 layers of photos<\/strong>Many software packages (Lightroom or Capture One, for example) can handle this without any problem.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-7763696\" data-block-id=\"7763696\"><style>.stk-7763696 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>6\/ And finally, turn\/move around your camera and don't make the camera turn around you.<\/strong> That way you stay as close as possible to the nodal point. Even with your smartphone.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-d541730\" id=\"5-creation-dune-photo-panoramique\" data-block-id=\"d541730\"><style>.stk-d541730 .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">5. Creating a panoramic photo ?<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5b4ad66\" data-block-id=\"5b4ad66\"><style>.stk-5b4ad66 {margin-bottom:0px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The simplest way of making a panoramic or vectoramic image, <strong>is simply to use reframing<\/strong>. You take your captured photo as usual and in post-processing, in your development \/ retouching software, you crop with a 3:1 format! <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-e8e0e91\" data-block-id=\"e8e0e91\"><style>.stk-e8e0e91 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">But in this case, you have seriously cropped your image and lost a lot of material. Tips for assembling a panoramic \/ vectoramic :<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Prior to assembly,<strong> there are a few things to check, including optical distortion and vignetting.<\/strong> If this is not corrected before assembly, there will be tonal variations at each seam and the images will be distorted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Of course, all this depends on the quality of our lenses, the shot itself etc... but the more finely this is corrected at source, the more you are guaranteed to have uniform transitions in the sky and other similar areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">I'll go even further: inrawtisation software, there are often <strong>a slider for correcting sharpness loss<\/strong> for the edges of the image, I'd also recommend using it to balance out the sharpness lost around the edges of your images (but gently, without abuse) which will <strong>will also even out the sharpness across your entire panorama.<\/strong> NB: Software such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.net\/dxo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DxO Photolab or DxO Pure Raw<\/a> do this scientifically and automatically using powerful algorithms, greatly simplifying the work and producing excellent results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>The last parameter to pay attention to<\/strong> after synchronising the light, distortion, vignetting and loss of sharpness <strong>is the white balance<\/strong>. Synchronise and balance your white balance before you start. Finally, let's move on to assembly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-3965638\" id=\"b-l-assemblage-des-vos-photos-en-panoramique\" data-block-id=\"3965638\"><h3 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">b. Assembling your photos into a panorama<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">Here we are at last, you can select all your prepared photos and send them for assembly. <strong>Lightroom, Capture One, Photomerge in Photoshop all have this stitching capability.<\/strong>. You can also use very powerful dedicated software such as <a href=\"https:\/\/ptgui.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PTGui <\/a> if you make a lot of them, but it's an investment from the outset. Some are capable of HDR panoramas. My article on HDR photography is coming soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">During assembly, you will be asked to choose options, so don't hesitate to test them and select the best rendering according to your preferences. The option found in all assembly software is projection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>Depending on the number of images and the field of view covered by your images, you can choose a projection (Lightroom or C1):<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>Spherical projection<\/strong> is useful for multi-row sewing with a wide field of vision both horizontally and vertically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>Cylindrical<\/strong> is useful for a single row of images covering a field of view of more than about 100 degrees. Vertical lines remain vertical thanks to this projection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>Projection in perspective<\/strong> aims to <strong>simulate the field of vision corresponding to a wide-angle lens<\/strong>. This projection is also useful for a field of view of less than about 100 degrees and\/or with images captured with tilt lenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\"><strong>Panini <\/strong>is useful for architecture where the vanishing point is in the centre of the frame. Vertical lines remain vertical and lines going towards the vanishing point remain intact thanks to this projection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9c0293c\" data-block-id=\"9c0293c\"><style>.stk-9c0293c {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Congratulations, your panoramic or vectoramic is finally complete \ud83d\ude0d ! <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-022491d\" id=\"6-remarque-diverses\" data-block-id=\"022491d\"><style>.stk-022491d .stk-block-heading__bottom-line{background-color:var(--theme-palette-color-2, #a6003c  ) !important;}<\/style><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">6. Miscellaneous comments<\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">If the resolution or number of input images is high, this will result in a fairly large panorama (dng). This can sometimes be as high as 600 to 800 megapixels.  Don't hesitate to crop your panoramas.  As the resolution is high, this leaves a lot of margin and will prevent your software\/computer from suffering from slowdowns and you will be able to continue developing\/retouching with too little 'response time' from the cursors. (even if all this is becoming increasingly imperceptible with today's performance).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">In Capture One, for example, you can choose to reduce the image to 25 %, 50 % or 75 %.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p data-block-type=\"core\">If you are converting your dng file to PSD for editing in Adobe Photoshop, <strong>take into account the file limitations of the PSD format<\/strong>&nbsp;It has a maximum height and width of 30,000 pixels and a size limit of two gigabytes . If the resulting panorama becomes too large, reduce the resolution when you create it or export it in TIFF format.
