More outings, more images, more experiences... A lot. As much as possible. Every sunset deserves a picture. Every tree becomes a subject. (I still capture a lot of them myself \ud83d\ude1c) Every alleyway, every reflection, every animal, every cloud seems like an opportunity that it would almost be a shame to miss.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8678fd4\" data-block-id=\"8678fd4\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">We fill memory cards, sometimes entire hard drives, convinced that quantity will naturally end up producing quality. I myself went through this period. I photographed enormously. P<strong>because I was afraid of missing out on something, that\u2019s still a bit the case, but I\u2019m working on it<\/strong> \ud83d\ude1c, <strong>because I thought every scene could become the photograph of the day.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-cafb592\" data-block-id=\"cafb592\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Because digital technology gives us this strange impression that clicking costs nothing. So why hold back? And yet... With hindsight, I<strong>I realise that many of these images ultimately told very little<\/strong>. They were above all proof that I had been there. Not necessarily that I had really looked. That is probably one of the first major milestones in learning photography.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-e4414de\" data-block-id=\"e4414de\"><style>.stk-e4414de {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>It\u2019s important to realise that making progress isn\u2019t always about taking more photos. In fact, sometimes a significant step forward begins precisely when you accept that you no longer need to take photos all the time.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-28c03a4 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"2-strong-le-piege-a-href-https-www-dragonstreetphotography-eu-photographier-silence-laisser-respirer-image-target-blank-rel-noreferrer-noopener-silencieux-a-du-numerique-strong\" data-block-id=\"28c03a4\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">2. <strong>The trap <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.eu\/en\/photograph-silence-let-the-image-breathe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">silencer<\/a> digital<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-3f8c304\" data-block-id=\"3f8c304\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Film photography naturally imposed a certain discipline. A thirty-six exposure roll already forced you to think. Every actuation had a value. Every mistake cost something. Today, our memory cards can hold several thousand images. Burst mode sometimes reaches several dozen images per second. \ud83d\ude2e\u200d\ud83d\udca8 Storage seems almost infinite. We can photograph without apparent consequence. This progress is wonderful.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6f339b2\" data-block-id=\"6f339b2\"><style>.stk-6f339b2 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Yet it also has a subtle side effect. It sometimes pushes us to replace observation with accumulation. Why wait a few more seconds when you can simply click twenty times? Why watch the light change if a new SD card is already waiting in the bag?<strong> Little by little, without realising it, we stop looking. We record. The difference is immense. Observing requires a presence. Recording simply requires a gesture.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-25aada7 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"3-strong-le-jour-ou-lon-commence-reellement-a-regarder-strong\" data-block-id=\"25aada7\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">3. <strong>The day you truly begin to look<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9a93cf9\" data-block-id=\"9a93cf9\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There is often a particular moment in a photographer\u2019s life. It is almost impossible to date. No medal comes to mark it. Yet, something changes. You walk more, you photograph less, you stay for a few minutes in front of a scene without immediately raising the camera, you observe the direction of the light.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-42a0b66\" data-block-id=\"42a0b66\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The slowly advancing shadows, the wind animating the grass, someone might just enter the frame\u2026 Silence becomes part of the process.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b6c99fd\" data-block-id=\"b6c99fd\"><style>.stk-b6c99fd {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Oddly, it is no longer photographs that attract us. It is atmospheres. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.net\/formation-dragonstreet-transformer-votre-regard-en-image\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">And that is probably where perspective truly begins to change.<\/a><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-6625536 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"4-strong-apprendre-a-renoncer-strong\" data-block-id=\"6625536\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">4. <strong>Learning to let go<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-0cdb5d8\" data-block-id=\"0cdb5d8\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">One of the hardest things in photography is accepting that certain images do not deserve to be made. Not because they are bad. But simply because they have nothing to say. <strong>Letting go takes more maturity than kicking off.<\/strong>  This means accepting that not all beautiful lights become beautiful photographs. \ud83d\ude31<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-b678667\" data-block-id=\"b678667\"><style>.stk-b678667 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">That not all landscapes are compositions. That not all journeys produce memorable images. At first, this can seem frustrating, <strong>then an astonishing phenomenon appears, every photograph taken becomes more important, because it was chosen.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-62a9485 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"5-strong-ne-pas-declencher-cest-deja-composer-strong\" data-block-id=\"62a9485\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">5. <strong>Not triggering is already composing<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-fdf1182\" data-block-id=\"fdf1182\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">One often imagines that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.eu\/en\/nature-visual-composition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">composition <\/a>begins when the device arrives in front of the eye. <strong>In reality, it starts much earlier: when you decide to take a few extra steps. <\/strong>When you are waiting for a cloud to slightly mask the sun. When you voluntarily remove a distracting element from the frame. When you finally choose to <strong>do not photograph this scene because it still lacks balance.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6c3fbe9\" data-block-id=\"6c3fbe9\"><style>.stk-6c3fbe9 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">All these moments are already part of the composition. The shutter release is merely the conclusion. <strong>A successful photograph is rarely taken the moment your finger presses the shutter button. It is created a few minutes beforehand. Sometimes even much earlier<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-f6f2af7 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"6-strong-le-silence-avant-limage-strong\" data-block-id=\"f6f2af7\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">6. <strong>The silence before the image<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9db9c18\" data-block-id=\"9db9c18\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">In a previous article on silence in photography, I mentioned that strange sensation that certain landscapes seem to be telling a story even before they are photographed. <strong>I now believe that there is also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.eu\/en\/photograph-silence-let-the-image-breathe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inner quiet.<\/a><\/strong> The moment just before the shutter is released. A moment when you stop feeling the absolute need to capture an image. <strong>Where we simply accept being present. This openness profoundly changes the way we take photographs.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-fa7f31f\" data-block-id=\"fa7f31f\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Because it replaces the constant search for a photograph with the attentive listening of a place. The best images often appear when you forget for a few moments that you came to take photographs.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-afc511b stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"7-strong-je-vous-propose-un-exercice-\ud83e\udee3-strong\" data-block-id=\"afc511b\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">7. <strong>Here\u2019s an exercise for you\u2026 \ud83e\udee3<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-10963f6\" data-block-id=\"10963f6\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Try this on your next outing: Limit yourself to just ten photographs. Not ten good shots. Not ten RAW files that you\u2019ll end up deleting. Ten shots. Nothing more.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-43ead6d\" data-block-id=\"43ead6d\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">At first, the exercise seems almost absurd, but then something should change: you\u2019ll slow down and observe more closely. You\u2019ll naturally start comparing different compositions before making your choice. <strong>Your brain makes the choice before your device does.<\/strong> (He needs challenges to grow. \ud83e\udd13)<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-1ffdaf2\" data-block-id=\"1ffdaf2\"><style>.stk-1ffdaf2 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">And that is exactly what causes a perspective to evolve.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-f0c5f40 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"8-strong-les-journees-sans-aucune-photographie-strong\" data-block-id=\"f0c5f40\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">8. <strong>Days without a single photograph<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-6fc76a6\" data-block-id=\"6fc76a6\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Some outings end without a single photograph. For a long time, I regarded them as failures. Nowadays, they are often the ones from which I learn the most. Because they cultivate a quality that has become rare: patience.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-88f2d8a\" data-block-id=\"88f2d8a\"><style>.stk-88f2d8a {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Our eyes continue to work even when the memory card is empty. We often forget that the brain also learns by observing. Without producing. Without publishing. Without showing. <strong>Some walks provide the inspiration for the photographs of the following weeks. They are unseen but essential.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-e2c9ab6 stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"9-strong-les-grands-photographes-semblent-attendre-strong\" data-block-id=\"e2c9ab6\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">9. <strong>Great photographers seem to wait<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-7b9a423\" data-block-id=\"7b9a423\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">When observing the work of many landscape photographers, one thing constantly recurs. They spend a huge amount of time doing nothing. \ud83d\ude31 \ud83d\ude1c At least in appearance. They are waiting for a light, a tide, a cloud, a movement, a breath...<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-5d5cb71\" data-block-id=\"5d5cb71\"><style>.stk-5d5cb71 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>We admire the final shot. The less we feel the need to take photographs, the more powerful the images become, because they arise from a specific intention.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-3c40984\" data-block-id=\"3c40984\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">They are no longer an automatic reaction; they become a choice, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dragonstreetphotography.eu\/en\/technology-kills-the-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a glance and a decision.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-8d2ee8e\" data-block-id=\"8d2ee8e\"><style>.stk-8d2ee8e {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>This simplicity is not the result of taking the easy way out; it is the result of a long learning process.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-a12931c stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"11-strong-ce-que-cet-apprentissage-change-vraiment-strong\" data-block-id=\"a12931c\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">11. <strong>What this learning experience really changes<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a8c4c6c\" data-block-id=\"a8c4c6c\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Ultimately, learning not to take too many photos has never been about taking fewer pictures; it\u2019s about learning to choose them more carefully.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-9e5cde1\" data-block-id=\"9e5cde1\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The quantity decreases, the presence increases, the gaze becomes calmer, the compositions feel more open, and the atmospheres take on greater significance.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a288cef\" data-block-id=\"a288cef\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>And, without even realising it, we start to tell a story rather than simply showing a landscape.<\/strong> Perhaps that, ultimately, is the true evolution of a photographer \u2013 one that may well be never-ending\u2026 (and that\u2019s just as well \ud83d\ude05) We no longer aim to come back with a full memory card.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-31b6383\" data-block-id=\"31b6383\"><style>.stk-31b6383 {margin-bottom:50px !important;}<\/style><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>We\u2019re trying to return to an image that really had a purpose.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-heading stk-block-heading stk-block-heading--v2 stk-block stk-62d42ee stk-block-heading--style-h1-standard\" id=\"12-strong-conclusion-le-declencheur-nest-jamais-le-commencement-strong\" data-block-id=\"62d42ee\"><h2 class=\"stk-block-heading__text\">12. <strong>Conclusion \u2014 The trigger is never the beginning<\/strong><\/h2><div class=\"stk-block-heading__bottom-line\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-e523e58\" data-block-id=\"e523e58\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">There\u2019s an idea that I wish I\u2019d understood much earlier.<strong> The shutter release is not the beginning of a photograph: it is almost its final consequence.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-e382db2\" data-block-id=\"e382db2\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>Before this moment, there was a journey, a walk, a moment of hesitation, a light observed, a framing abandoned, a composition reconstructed, and an emotion that slowly took hold.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-673ae09\" data-block-id=\"673ae09\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">All these stages are invisible, yet they are already part of photography, and <strong>That is why I believe that learning to photograph is not solely about mastering a camera, an exposure or software: it is also learning how to wait.<\/strong> To observe. To renounce.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-52a228f\" data-block-id=\"52a228f\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Accepting that some scenes will simply remain fond memories, while others will naturally become images.
